Margaret Simon to Henry Simon, 13 June 1864
Providence June 13th 1864
Dear Farther I have been looking for a letter from you and I have not had any answers to my two last ones. you say in your last that you had just received a letter from me staiting uncle death and you think I had better come home I am home and have been home two mounths or more. you want to know how I get along I have got along verry well since I came home. for the last few weeks I have not done any thing. the doctor thought I had better rest, for I was all run down. you must not think I am sick for I am not. I am better now and are going to work for Mrs Blodget this week. you ought to have seen me when I came home from new york. I never was better in my life, so fat that I did not like to do anything. I am so anxious do some thing that I can hardly rest. this playing lady is not just the thing I can tell you. I suppose you and erny have a great deal to take up your time but you tell ernest that if he dont write to me I will give it to him when he comes home you have received that box by this time and the pictures. next week I am going to have mine taken. I have got your photograph, and it is splendid. I sent on to Jersey and had it taken from your likeness that Aunty has got & del is here, and has sent you her / likeness. del wrote to you yesterday and will send his letter with mine. O farther you should Roby he is the smart boy he learnt seven words in about five minuets, and that what I call smart. george is pretty smart, he knows most all his letters and carrie she is the nicest little girl I know of you will want to know how franky is he is not verry at present to-day. franky is mind I think is a little better he seems to remember more than he did some time ago. farther now I am going to write to about Maggie I want you to write and tell her what you want her to do so she can have some thing to do that you will like I am so afraid some time that I am doing wrong that I dont know what to do and and it makes me feel so bad, I want your advice all the time. I have written you a good many letters and so have I to erney and think erny might if you dont I know you dont receive my or you would write. you are having a hard time out their and I wish I could do something for you. how are the men in your company have you had any trouble since you came away from texas. lizzie and louise are going to write and it is four o clock. Louise is learning millinery and likes it very much. liny has told you all the news so their is nothing for me to tell you. have you got any of the papers. Louise has sent them every week. Mother is verry well you ought to see us all you would not know us I dont believe liny is as fat as she can be but dont tell for the world. I am a little thinner then I was when you went away. I am makeing me a new dress and so you see I have got that to keep me busy for two or three days. farther I am going to close for I have got a little pain and so you will excuse the looks of this I would copy it but am afraid some thing will happen. sunday I will write and tell you how I get / along at Mrs. Blodgets. hope I will do well will try. practice make perfect you know and that what I have got to have. I want to wear and I cannot wear untill I win, win and wear is my motto, wait utill untill two or three years and if nothing happens you will see the little dress maker come out. wont we have good times then, all is darkest before dawn. farther tell me all about ernest when you write tell me how he looks and how he spends his time I should like to be with you and just see how you look. sometimes you are haveing fun and other times you are as sad as you can be thinking of us all we will try and do the best we can and trust the rest to god. O I forgot to tell you Mr Adams sends his respects to you and Ernest and so does Mr Rice. Adel sends her love and says tell you to not to forget to write. please write and tell Ernest to do the same tell Ernest I am going to write to him I will to night if I have time I must close as it is verry late and I am a little tiard write often and tell me what you are doing
