Charles L. Stafford to Henry Simon, 14 September 1864
Fort Jackson, Sept 14, 1864.
Captain,
Capt. Metcalf has just informed me that he is going to New Orleans in the first boat.
We are getting along very well much after the old way. My health I think and hope is improving. Major has put Lieut Bishop in command of the company and I have allowed him to do most of the work. We have lost one man since you left (Thomas Martin of congestive fever) he was sick but a short time. Capt. Fry says you had 8 pair of gloves. I suppose Capt Metcalf will tell you all about the Batt so there is no use in my writing it. Please remember me to Viall—
Cha's. L. Stafford
Lt. Co. B. 11th U.S.C. Arty Hvy
