Burke Ville Sep 2ond 1865
Dear parents I received your kind and welcomed letter and was glad to here from you. I am well and hope this find you the same. I was payed of about a week a go. I got $133. I sent home $100 and keept 33 but it did not do me much good for I had $30 of stole I want you to keep them 50 dollar bills if you can get along without them I want you to send me a pair of calf skin boots no 7 and a pair of cotton shirts Send the boots just as soon as you can get them Send by mail (direct them burks Station Va not put the regt or co on it.) I have got them boots you made for me last fall. they are prety well wore out. I went up to appormattic court house to arrest 4 men but did not get either of them I went up to high bridg where my col / was killed and I change cars there and farmville and from there to where old Lea surrendered. the tree that lea surrendered under is all gone they dug up every piece root that could be found. there are quantity of coons wild turkey possum grey squirrels pigons quails down here. We can get sweet potato here now I want you to ask mr cuming if he know a man by the name of elisher Taft he is in my co. What is Jason doing now
