Waterboro Sept 23rd 1862
Dear Lizzie
I imbrace a few moments to write a few lines to you to let you know that I am well & all the rest of the folks at home
You will doubtless be somewhat surprised when you receive this to learn that I shal be on my way to Washington I received a letter from Paul or rather from a friend of his to night & he is vary sick with a feavor in Washington & wants me to come out & take care of him his letter was wrote on the 18th & he was not able to sit up but a few minetts at a time & wanted me to come immediately so I shal not be able to come & / see you & my babe You will have a chance to make a good visit at the falls & you must take good care of your self & the baby I will probley not be gon more then 3 or 4 weeks but I will write to you as soon as I get to Washington & tel you how to direct a letter to me I shal go to Portland & take a steamer for New York & then bye Rail Road to Washington.
I wish I could have had time to come & see you before I went but then Paul may be suffering for the want of a nerce & I am goin their as quick as I can You dont blame me do you I will leave our room in the care of Mellie & will giv her the keys I shal not take any thing but a carpet bag with me /
When you write to me let me know wether you want any money & if you do I will try & send you some
Now take good care of the babe & your self to God bles you both how I want to see you—Good Bye
