Chantilly Va June 21st 1864
Dear Brother
I will pen you a few lines this eavning to let you know how we get a long we still remain here and I guess we shal untill we start for home it is very exciteing times here now old Hookers hole armey is a bout 25 milds up west of us they have been fiteing all day we could hear the guns but dont know how they made it day before yesteday Paul was down to see me and yesteday Collins came down and staid all night they both look tough as a brick the is a bout three hundred surply trains paces our camp every day and it makes things lively I tell you Paul that colt I had I sold got 20 dolers for her and she dident cost me eny thing I am glad you have got such a good chance and hope you can stand it to work I am very sorry to here mother is so slim I want to get home nd see her and to help Joe for he must have it very hard we shal probly start the first of this week / and get to Portland the very last you must be looking out for us so to see us when we come throw we are all well now and are having very fine weather I hant got eny more noose to write this time so I must close soon for I want to write a litle to Joe you must excuse my mistakes and poor writeing
