Waterboro Nov 2nd 1866
Dear Aunt,
I will now try and answer your letters which were recd. some weeks ago But oh the dreadful news contained in them. We can hardly believe that such a dreadful thing has happened. If such a thing had happened here with us it seems as though I never could get over it and you saw it all how badly you must feel about it We were all thankful that the rest of you were safe but sorry that Uncle Darlings hands were burned so badly
I meant to have written to you Sunday but was sick and could not Granmother has just come in and brought a sheet of paper and said I must sit down and write to you so here I am Granmothers health is as good as can be expected She wants to hear from you very much and wants to hear how Darlings hands are now. She says she is going to send you a box of things some apples and dried apples and Granfather says he will send you a barrel of potatoes but they want you to write how they shall direct them
Granmother wants to know where the rest of the Gowell family are. Where is Rosan Gowell and do they keep house there /
I came home some five weeks ago am going back next week Susie is there now
We are having some very pleasant weather here now for the time of year some days are warm as summer.
The folks are all well here trust this will find you also the rest of your family well hope Uncle Darlings hands are better by this time.
Granmother wants you to write so that she can get a letter Monday night sure and wants you to write how Augustus is and Bailey and all about yourself and family She says she has not forgotten you she thinks of you every day and dreams of you by night / She sends her love to all and says dont fail to write so that we can get the letter Monday night
I cannot write any more now should be very glad to have you write to me after I go to Gt Falls I would answer as soon as recd. Father Mother and all send their love to you and Darling Please give my love to him kiss Bailey and the baby for me &c. Please excuse bad writing for my pen is poor
