11 pm.

My dear Dolly:
Reached here at 10-15 Let the old horse take his own pace and have his own way except where he started off on the wrong road which he did do twice. I had to laught at the poor fool / But I think he did pretty well to remember all the rest of the way. When I got almost up to Ice Pond I woke up and found horse trotting sideways The nut had come off from the bolt which holds the shaft to the sleigh on the right hand side and so the poor plug was going sidewise to compensate I wished for my Dolly all the way up and I surely do right now! Think I could sleep with some comfort if I could have her to night.  (Would drive back again.)

Don't forget in making up your diary to note in it that Bessie gave us a Millinery Entertainment with a Military Finale entitled: "Born on the Fourth of July" I believe it!

Good night my dear Dolly. My trip was certainly worth the while!

Lovingly, R.

I forgot to say good-bye to your pa and to thank him for all the trouble I put him to.
