Arthur P. Bagby Jr. to Harry T. Hays, 16 May 1865

Shreveport May 16th
My dear Sir
Will you write to me, when I can meet you at Mansfield. Genl Buckner can not come down himself and wishes me to meet you and tell you many things which may not be trusted to paper. Font est perdu hors l'honneur. Our individual honor we can save though our men are bringing everlasting dishonor upon our flag. A large and powerful element between however will remain true to the last and prefer exile and foreign service to the degradation of slavery.
Truly your friend
A. P. Bagby
