Robert John Taylor
Robert John Taylor was born around 1806 in Scotland to John Taylor and Isabella Renwick. He married Mary Smith in Hobkirk, Scotland, on January 14, 1831, and they had at least seven children: John, born around 1831; Isabella, born around 1833; Archibald, born around 1835; William, born around 1838; Robert, born around 1841; Peter, born around 1843; and Mary, born around 1845.
 
The family immigrated to America in 1839 and settled in New York. They moved to Spring Valley, Wisconsin, around 1844. Taylor worked as a farmer, and he owned $2,400 of real estate in 1850. A decade later, he owned $4,530 of real estate and $1,850 of personal property, and by 1870, he owned $23,500 of real estate and $4,490 of personal property. He employed at least one farm laborer and one white house servant. He remained in Spring Valley for the rest of his life, and he died there on May 9, 1885.
