Camp Casey, Nov 12th 1861

Dear Sister, I recd your letter in due time, and was glad to hear from you. I am well at present, and hope that you are the same. there are a good many sick, Ed. Carvey, E. Jones, C. H. Townsend, M.D. Wilson. Sunday the 3rd of this month we started on a march, and did not get back until Saturday. went down within four miles of the Chesapeake bay. we went to guard the union men in Calvert county, at prince frederic court house. the county went secesh, but the state / went union by a large majority. it was a hard march for some of the men, a good many of them tired out the second day and had to come back. we took a good many prisenors and brought five of them one days march back with us, and they took the oath and the Colonel let them go again. one of them is bound to appear at the city some time this month. the country is about the same as it is in Virginia. it is very nice weather down here, we have some cold nights down here. to day we were out on review again by the general of our brigade, Howard is his name.

I had a letter from Daniel Saturday, and wrote again Sunday. he wrote that he was about well, so that he could go to his company again. John and Art were well, and I had a letter from home the same time. David wrote that Wallace was going deer hunting and told him that he must answer my letter, and so he wrote a few lines. the folks were all well, but about them there boys, I dont know what to say, they did not go in our Company. they were at Camp Curtin when we came down here, and Edgar I have not seen him since he left the / boro, before we came away. the boys said that he was going in the horse company. if our clothes have not come yet, they must be at troy this is the fourth letter that I have wrote this week. I would like to have a little money, but if you cant get any, I shall have send home for some. Wal sent me two dollars about two weeks ago. write when you get this. fowler says that he is as tough as ever. Dewitt says that he has not had but one letter from Rhoda since he has been here. tell her to write to me and I will answer it. so good by, direct as before,
