I thot that I wold write a few lines to you to let you know how I git a long down here I think that I git a long as well as well as eny of the boys do I like it first rate here I like it here the best of eny plase that I have ben in yet for thare is so any sow meny nigers here the ground is covered with nigers I thot that I should write to you before but I hant got time till now I think that I shall tell you some of the dandist lies that you ever saw or hird of in your life I gess the nigers here that ant as big as youer boy is that will take a tub on thare head and they dont loock as tho they had thare shelles cracked yet thare is a boot from twentey to fortey in a famley and thare all a boot all of a sise and I should think that tha was all of one age my brother in law sets here riting some tender lines to some bodey and the rest of the boes is raising the devel thare was a dance here last night the boes had a grand time tha a boot sutch a time as the girles did to wilards onley the boyes wont bobtaild sow it wont a bobtald dance it was all tail with some of them the boyes is is all well at this time the boyes that was left to fortress moroe have gest come and the mager I think that we shal have beter times now fore we shall not come on gard as ofton as we did and thare is some new ones that the magor got for us sow that we have got a good Compiny now 
 
John fletcher has come here you beter think that I was glad to see some one from from the north but I gess that they will be glad to git back home a gin tho but if they like it here as well as I do thay will git a long well a nuff all that bothers me I cant get eny whiskey nor eny eny eny I sware I should lik to see emley Clinton wonce mor I think that I should wife hir that bothers me for I am a frade that the rebels will cill me sow that I cant wife hir and gorge that will be bad for she will feal bad the boys have had the all come in here to hav a dance in this room sow that tha make sow mutch nois that I cant here my self think but I shall stop and go it with my hat of purtey soon. I can rase the devel yet if I am within sight of the rebels wonce in a while now I stop to dance a litel the dance has broke oop now and I gess that I will write a litel  Now went oop the river the boys other day on picket and we thot that we should have a litel fun bot we did not have eny fun but we could se the rebels camp and that done us a litel good but not haf as mutch good as it would to see em Clinton. I sware I wold give all that i shall mak in this wor if i could see a white girl I wold not car how black she was onley white tell libe miler that I should like to see hir if you are a minto. we have got a new suit of close now and if the rebels shoutes me and makes a hole in my hat I shall be some mad by thunder /
 
            Gorge write to me and let a poor orphan know how the folks gits a long and let me know how the girles gits a long eny how for you dont know how a feler feeles dow here with out eny mother but I feel like hell and hant seen eny thing of you neither John fletcher sets here and he sais tell you that his here all right tha had purtey rough water when tha was coming down here but I had a nice time coming down her for I had lots of  [?] and whiskey sow that I got a long pretty well the boys is poping corn now tha have lots of fun popin corn here thare was lots of corn here on this islands that the rebels left and thare is lots of niger gristmills to sow that we have lots of meal to eat. Gorge I should like to be to home this winter sow that I could go to school Gorge I cant think of eny more to day
