David Chase to George W. Kennedy, 29 March 1864
South Creek, Pa. Mar 29th 1864

Mr. Geo. Kennedy

Dr. Sr.
I suppose you have been looking a good while for a letter from me, and wondering all the time why that Dave dont write

The fact is I have not had time to write to you until now. I stayed with Wal. untill last Saturday, and of course I could not write while staying with at Esthers for she is such an old rip to scold that it would have made me crazy if I had tried to.

Wal. is getting along as fast as can be expected. He is able to dress himself and walk about the house and now & then takes a short walk out / of doors, although the Dr. ordered him to stay in the house two weeks longer. But you know Wal dont care a damd for what the Dr. says and does just as he please about everything. I do not think he will be able to travel under 3 weeks yet. All the rest of the folks are well. The last that I heard from Dan he was able to walk about. Sergt. J. P. Inman is in Richmond. he has written home once, and said nothing about being wounded, although the news papers say he is wound in the head.

I heard from the Capt the 22d inst. the 45th is now at Annapolis Md. Will says he has been having a few shakes since leaving home.

I suppose you have made three or four tons of maple sugar by this time. I hope you will have as much on hand as I can eat by the time I get there, which will be some time, if ever.

We still have very cold weather with considerable snow and ice.

Well I must close. Now Geo. be sure that you do not let Mary have this letter for you know she always keeps such trash. But burn it as soon as you have finished reading it, that is if you can read it at all, and I will do the same by yours if you should consider this worth noticing and write me a few lines. Yours Respy David Chase
