Dear Brother
George, I now will write you a few lines once more to let you know that I am well as usual except my shoulder, and that will always be lame.

I wrote a letter to Mary about three weeks ago and have not had an answer yet. So this time I will write to you, and see if I can get an answer / George, yesterday I sent $300.00 to Elmira by Express to father for you. I wrote to father yesterday, so he will go and get the money, and send it to you or keep it till you go after it.

I see by the papers this morning that Lieut James E. Catlin was killed at Petersburg in the last fight, and Henry Elliott was wounded. there was another Lieut killed and three Officers taken prisoners, and it was also reported that Col Curtin was killed, and there was three Officers wounded. the 9th Corps has lost very heavy this time.

George, you can use that money as you think best. I will want some way to get a living after I get out of the Army, for my arm wont let me work much more. the shoulder joint is spoiled so that I cant raise my arm up from the shoulder. I suppose that I will have to go to the front before long. I will send you Lieut Haigs photograph. as it is about dinner time I will close. give my love to all. and write soon.
ever your Brother,
Capt Wm Chase
