Sunday, Jan 4th 1863
 
Dear Brother
it has been a good while since I have herd from you. I wrote to you last and I am going to write again. But I have not mutch news to write I am well at present and all the other Boys But they are all full of the old harry so I cant think of mutch to write.
 
it is a verry pleasent country round here we have not had anny snow here in six or seven weeks and  then it only lasted two days 
 
it has been settled here more than a 100 years and it dont look so it had been over 30 years most of the land has been cleared once but has all timbered over again there is lots of game here I will name over a few kinds game Deers Bears Foxes Panthers Coons and all sorts of small game but it dont do us anny good for we cant shoote only when they will let us
 
you must write and Cyntha to and let me know what you have named that boy
