Suffolk Va Jan 27th 1863
Dear Brother
it has been a good while since I have herd from you and I thought I would write a few lines to let you know that I am well and hope this will find you all the same.
two months of our winter is allmost gone and we dont know hardly where it has gone. to Day it is as warm as it is there in September and all most as pleasent we have had only two snow storms yet and they did not last long
I have writen all I can this time as I have to go & stand guard in the rain down the back.

Sir as willie has not filled this sheet & wished me to write a fiew lines to you I thought I would having nothing els to do well I will tell you how I like soldering. I like it bully a great ways of. I think I sold my self pretty cheap when they got me to sign my name to thare list. god damd if I hadent rather fish a century than soldier it one week John how do you get along blacksmithing I soppose you have a shop of your own.
there is not mutch news at present there is nothing that is worth writing about that I can think of at present
