Jackson Ville Florida Feb 25th 1864
 
Dear Parents. I thought I would write a few lines to let you know that I am all right. we left Folly Island yester day at 6 in the morning on board the Steamer Ben Deford. there was over 2,000 soldiers on the boat so you see we had a good load

But has been most all burnt. we expect to go to the front this afternoon. Our troops got licked here about a week ago. Sargeant Green (one that used to belong to our Company) said that their reg. had 230 kiled and wounded and 4 Officers killed and 14 wounded. that was the 2d north Carolina. the 115 N.Y. lost 300. /
My Box was at the Express office at Pawnee Landing when we left.
 
Feb 26th I am on Picket to day in a turpentine woods. the water is good here. Plum Cherry and Peach trees are in the blossom here
 
I saw a magnolia plant here yesterday the leaves were 8 or 10 feet long and nearly a foot wide
 
                        I have wrote about all that I can think of. you must this paper we left all our baggage in camp this is some I had in my pocket and wrote on my knee Will
