Suffolk Va April 8th
 
Dear Mother
            I received your letter last night and was glad to hear that you were all well. I am about as well as ever now I have had the measles again but not very hard this time. I thought that I had the measles once but that want enough for they have them two or three times down here. the rest of the Boys are all well at present
I got a letter from Byron a few days ago but it / was a wonder that I ever got it he directed it to me Care Cap Ludwick Suffolk Va. there was no Company or Regiment on it I got two papers the other day that you sent there is no news to write at present
 
we expect our pay in a few days but we cant tell how soon
 
our Colonel got back night before last he said that it was the muddiest he ever saw up in Chautauqua that he the Boys were all glad to see him
