Dear Parents               I received your letter dated the 14 last night and was glad to hear from you But I was sorry to hear that you and mother were so unwell but I hope you will be wel in a few days I got the Rural last night to the postage stamps I got a good while ago you will think I dont write often enough I would have wrote monday but just as I came in from Picket the order was to fal in with three days rations in our haversacks and / be ready to march at one oclock but we did not start till 2 then started for Blackwatter the 6th massachusetts in the front then Follets Battery then the 112 next the 13 Indaana 96 ny 103 Pa and the 11 Pa Cavelry and Doges mounted riffle men we marched all the after noon and all night and got to Blackwater at day light the next morning we had gone about 30 miles in the time the 11 Cavelry drove what was on our side of the river acros then we came up with our Battery and formed in line of Battle in a peach orchard behind our Battery and 13 in line behind us / and one Battery But we had 3000 men in all and the rebels had 6000 and 2 Batterys So they had to men to our one and we had to cros the river to attack them then we turned around to go back to camp But had only gone a few miles when the came in a head of us then we chased them to Franklin where they crosed the Blackwater again our Battery fired a good manny rounds in to their camp But I dont know what hurt it done Five balls from the Rebels guns passed over our heads but they did no hurt to us then we turned and started for camp again and / and slept in a corn corn field all night and started for camp again and got in to camp at to oclock marched only bout sixty 65 or 70 miles in all you can think about it and if you can find manny better marches I dont think you can Col Dr Col Drake said he never saw anny thing like it before this is about all I can think of at present
 
about my boots I dont want them now we have not got anny pay yet this is all I can think of now If you know Byrons direct I wish you would send them
