Folly Island
November 27th

Dear Parents
I received your letter dated the 8th night before last I received annother from marggaret to day dated the 15th

I am well at present and about all the rest of the Boys from our place

I have some sad news to write this time. the Captain received Offical Notice night before last of Delberts death. he died the 20th of this month. I did not receive anny letters from him after he left here. I wrote to him twice. / Since I wrote last there has three more died not counting Delbert

Since I wrote last there has nothing new occured that I know of

in your letter you spoke about Johney being to home he arrived here yesterday he looks well and tuff

he said that he was over to our house. I would like to be there to stay with you a spell but I cant yet a while I hope this war will end this winter but I dont see anny prospect of it at present time will tell we cant

You wrote in your letter about our renewing the attack on Charlestown. our camp camp is about 8 miles from / the front or Fort Gregg
we can hear the cannons about all the time. I can hear the report of the cannon about once a minute. the last time I saw Fort Sumpter it looked pretty hard. it must look hard by this time for it over two months since I saw it

You wanted me to give the account of one days duty. we have different kinds of duty to do. Picket is the worst for the reason that they wont allow us to keep fire after dark our Guard duty is not very hard at present. Company B and I are over on long Island doing Picket Duty

I am not on duty but drill to the drill to day was Company drill in the four noon and / Division Drill this after noon. it is about as dark a night to night as it was the night that you and I came home from Buffalo but it dont rain as hard as it did then

I ment to say something about our cannon bursting when I was writing about Fort Sumpter but forgot it. it is not a very seldom thing to hear about the bursting of a cannon there has been a great manny burst since we came here

I have received all the postage stamps that you have sent and the money that ma sent me. I have wrote about all that I can think of at present so I will have to bid you Good By for this time write often

Will
