Washington March the 27th/62
 
Dear Sister
                                              I received your kind letter of the 25th which gave me great pleasure to hear that you and your family is in good health as I am in at present thank god for it I wrote a letter to John last week and i gave him a purty good blowing up about how he is getting along I did not tell him i got a letter from you i told him there was a man told me all about him i am eight months in service now out of the three years and did not see no sign of a battle yet our company is guarding washington ever sinse and i suppose we wont get away any further for another while i am Orderly for General Wadsworth now and i will try for a fourlough 
 
we have three months pay due to us now and i dont know when we will get paid but as soon as i get paid i will try and get going to see yous Our Companey has first rate quarters we live in a brick house it is a good bit better than to lay in the mud like some poor fellows does
 
Dear Sister i am in want of nothing at present i have more clothes than i know what to do with thare is a sweetheart of mine sent me some few articles from Pensylvania and when i go home i will give her a loving squeeze for it I dont know of any important to tell you at present
 
excuse these few hurried lines i have not much time to write it is getting near bed time and i must enclose 
 
I conclude by sending my love to you and your family and to all inquiring friends
