Fredricksburg June the 6th 1862
 
Dear Sister
                        I received your letter on the 5th inst which gives me pleasure to hear that you and Ferdinand is well and in good health as this leaves me in at present thank god for it
 
I wrote a letter to John yesterday and it will be the last one if he dont answer it i put the key in one corner of the carpet bag roled in a piece of paper he can get it easey James McKenna writes Marys letters for her and he says John dont drink near as much as he used to i am glad to hear it we are purty buisy out here we are hardly ever out of our saddles day and night for when we are not on Picket we are out scouting there is half of our boys out three days now they could not get back after going across the river it arose that high after the rain we had very heavy rain here it is raining here all the time nearly I have not much more to tell you at present
 
i conclude by sending my love to you and Ferdinand and to all my enquiring friends
