Camp near Harrisons Landing July 29^th/62

 

Dear Sister

                        I take the opportunity of writing these few lines to you hopeing to find you and Ferdinand and family in good health for this leaves me in very poor health at present i am going to the doctor nearly three weeks and he is doing me more harm than good takeing his medicine and i cant eat any of these crackers since i took sick uncle Sams food dont agree with me and it is very warm here now if we would only get paid once we could get some little things that would nourish us but we expect to get paid in two weeks more

 

Bedelia if you would send me a box here with some little things in it i will send you double the amount when i get paid      over /

 

it would be very easy to send one here by Adams Express Direct it to Michael Conklin Co. A. 4^th Pa Cavalry Harrisons landing James River i would not ask Mary for she has sent me nearly seven dollars worth what i had a long with me if you happen to send it send a couple of good bottles of brandy

 

Bedelia i wrote two letters to you and got no answer only a paper but there was good news in the paper i wrote two letters to Mary and got no answer i will write her another one shortly again when you write let me know how her and Jane and all the young ones is especialy Emma i had to stop writing nine or ten times and lay down i feel that bad when i sit or stand i have a touch of the Diahreah and pains in my bones and the head ache and god knows what 

 

as soon as you receive this letter write and let me know if you will send it John will see it all right in the express send some nice cakes along i will pay you well for it let me know if you received that letter with the five dollars in it it was sent before the Battles commenced and i could not tell whether it went or not i have not much more to say at present only if you send the box send it as quick as you can
