Philadelphia Aug 27th 1862
 
Dear Sister
                        I received your letter and i am glad to hear that yous are all well i am getting a little better i received your letter today and i found a dollar in it which i am much obliged to you for until i return the compliment to you for i was in need of it we will get paid here on the first of the next month and i expect four months pay Bedelia i am sorry about that box you sent me you can get it there again if you have the receipt for it or else make him pay you for it i left the companey on the 4th of August and went to the Hospital and stopt there 7 or 8 days and then i was sent here thats how i missed the box
 
that was a very short letter you wrote to me the last you were complaining about me writing / short letters but yours is far shorter
 
i am glad to hear that Mary Morrisons family is well but i did not hear any thing about herself or Jane
 
you did not mention how John is getting along
 
there seems to be something the matter you were so long writing your letter was wrote on the 26th and i received it on the 27th i get a pass every day here from 9 A.M. to 6 P.M. and i come in and out for my meals i am in the best Hospital in the City
