Distributing Camp February the 1st 1863
Dear Sister & Brotherinlaw
I take my pen in hand to write these few lines to yous hoping to find yous all in good health as i am in at present
I received them papers about two weeks ago and there was good news in them I was expecting to leave here every day that is the reason i didnt write before now but now i got charge of a squad of men here and i dont know when i will leave it perhaps as soon as i take a notion this is a camp the soldiers comes to before going to their Regiments they are sent from the Convalescent Camp to here and from here off
I didnt receive a letter from Mary yet if she wrote she must have put the wrong directions on and they went to the Regiment when you write let me know how is John making out with the pedling I have five months pay comeing to me now and if i could get to Washington i could get it I had to sell my watch to keep me in spending money we have nice weather and dry now but it is awfull muddy we had no severe weather here this winter of any account let me know does the horse cars run all winter there
I havent much more to write of any account at present Direct to Michael Conklin Co. A. 4th Pa. Cav. Camp Distributing near Alexandria Virginia Write as soon as you receive this letter i think i wont want any coal this winter i have wood enough to do me if you are scarce of wood i will send you some in the next letter
