Dear Sister
I received your kind and welcome letter on the 7th and was glad to hear yous are all well as i am at present thank god for it I have just returned after a long and tiresome march and fighting pretty near the whole time our Cavalry drove Jackson before them for three weeks and he only stoped once to give us any sort of a good battle and when night came he cleared again I have been sick for the last week but i am getting first rate again I thought I was getting the Typhoid Fever but i am glad i am recovering again we got paid yesterday and i got 6 months pay i could send you $50 dollars it would be safer / with you than with me for i might lose it and if i can send it by Express i will it is a 50 dollar bill
the papers did not come i only received to since i came back to the companey i expect you hear about that Fredricksburg affair again there is not much talk about here not more than before it started but the enemy has lost a great sight more than we did the Cavalry has done good service this time for Gen Hooker if he had to push on but he was overpowered to much
I must bring my letter to a close by sending my love to you and Ferdinand and the children
