August the 23d
Camp near
Lexington
Kentuckey

Dear Father,
I think it my duty too inform you of my whereabouts. I am now in the Old State of Kentuckey and I am happy too say that we have arrived safe without the loss of a man and more I can say that I have had my satisfaction of rideing on the cars. I am now 150 miles from home. But I believe that I have plenty of friends I believe I dont believe I have no enemy's in our Regiment

I am well now, though I have been a little sick. But it did not last long. well I have seen a great many things since I have been in the Service. Our ride on the cars from Richmond 2 Indianoplis was all after night and I cannot tell you much about the country but what little I could see looked verry nice. we got to Indnoplis about 3 O'clock in the morning. we sleept in the cars until morning. we then marched to the state house we only stayed at Indeanoplis only 2 days we then marched 2 Louis Ville, Ky. we crossed the Ohio river about 2 Oclock in the night we went on over too Camp Okland Ky. we only / stayed at this place about 10 hours. we had just got our tents piched when the ordor was to strike tents too march too Lexington Ky we was off in a hurry we arrived at Lexington about 3 Oclock on the 22d of August and now we are in camp near Lexington Ky. on the 23d ult. we are now awaiting ordors too march some where else we dont know where but I suppose we will go to Cumberland Gap. Our Regiment is a good health and in fine spirits. They are in a good condition for fighting, if they were only drilled this is all we like. we have stout good hearted men

well I will have to close writeing for this time I want you to write soon as you can and Oblige your
Obeident Son
