Dear Father
It affords me great pleasure to get the chance to answer your welcom letter. It being the first I have received since I have been in camp. It found me as it left you. you dont know how glad I was to hear from you. I have been looking for a letter from you for a long time at last it came. I have got well again. I was very sick indeed. I had the feavor, but I took good care / of myself and soon broke it up so you see by me takeing care of myself I have got well

I would like to know the reason you have not got them letters that I have wrote to you I have wrote 2 to you and give in them the orders of our camp this will be hard for you to read but I am on duty and I cant write with pen and ink. I commenced to write with ink but I was called out on duty and as Mr Kennedy going home soon after dinner have to be in a hurry out on such away I think I ought to be allowed to have time to write to I wanted to write you a good letter but I can not do it. I am sorry to think that George Murphy cant be with us we are getting along fine drilling we are learning very fast the Boys all seem to be well satisfied and glad to have the chance to be a Soldier. they say if the war was to end they would be out of business But I think though we will have a peep at at the elephant yet. we have good news to day. I would like to know how you are all getting along, how you come on with your work, if you have made / your molasses or not and how much you have made. you said you would have to tell how my girl was doing you need not think I care for I am thinking about something else But I'll straiten things when I come home I'll make a fuss with her I'll have what she has of shure if I can get it so I will have to close by asking you to write soon or come up so no more at presant
