My Dear wife it is through the provdence of god that i am once more promited to wright a few lines to let you know that i am as yet alive and well and i hope this will find you the saim and my litle boys i have past through one of the hardest batles that has ben fought and it was such as i never want to see again and i hope and pray thair will never be another thair was about two hundred of our rigermant kild and wounded Henry Pattee has a slite wound in the head
 
Charles Burnam was wounded in the lage i cant tell how bad we had three kild in our Compney and 18 wounded as fortune would have it Elro and my self caim out without being hurt the rebels had earth works throne up on a high ridge and we could not get to them and we wer out on the open field and they cut ous like gras before the syth our ginral says his men wont go into another such a plase while they air under his command his name is freerrio i feel as tho i should come out wright in the end but it is hard teling it is a spot of luck and chance i shal not say much about it. i saw wood young / this morning he is well and smart the springfield boys caim out all wright you will hear all about the batle before you get this and more than i can wright to and more than i want to i got the gloves they wer not just what i wanted but they do very well i rote to Albina about a pair of boots and if he has got them made i want to have you send them to me when you send a box we have not got the one they sent from bath direct the saim as you would a leter washington DC 11 NHV Co G in the cair of Captin Pingry, say pleas forard to rigerment        do you get my leters or not i have not had but one from home for about five weaks and i think it strange for i wright much more for i have to much to think of i should like to know whether you have got eny money from the bank or not it is time if you have not you let me now it wright away take good cair of your self i should be very glad to see you but i cant at present give my love to all ho inquier and take a good part to your self Ciss the boys for me tell them paper thinks of them every knight when he goes to sleep this is from your afectionate husban H P Elliott good by /
