Mary and the children my helth is quite good at presant i received your leter knight before last and was very sorey to hear that your health is so poor i am know on bord of a steamer going down the Mississpi to help fight the batle Vicksburg i expect we left kentuckey one weak ago to day and it will take ous some three or fore days longer i am geting a quite a long way from home but it maters but litle for my life is a life of travel but i hope my life may be spaired that i may see my home and friends once more and i think it will i have ben / in 15 diferant states sence i left home i have about three hundred miles of the state illonois and i do not fancy it much i was paid of again last knight you said you had not hurd from the other and the troble was he did not get the pay roles round as he had ought to i think know that it will come all wright i think you had beter sell your cow if she trobles you and get along as easy as you can take good cair of your self and children and wright as often as you can / [?] hear is the twig of a sissras tree that i got when when we were coming down the mississipi on the shores of Misoura doant let the children chew it this is the saim name of the tree that you read about in the bible
