is all quiet to day and i am glad that it is. yesterday morning we had some of the hevesty canonading that i ever hurd it made the ground tremble but we wer so far of that we could not see it and i for one was glad that we wer for i have seen enough of such work. but i expect to see more if i live and i hop and pray that i may live to get home once more and see my friends if i have them and i think i have what do you think i have seen times sence i have ben out hear that i thought that they wer few but i have some / good ones out hear i ingoy my self prety well at presant my helth is quite good at presant and i hope it will continue to be so, and i feel in hopes that when next hear from you that yours will be beter. i cant wright much that will interest you at presant but if i was at home i could tell you a grate deal i think i shal be at home this fall to stay a few days long enough to make a viset if i hav good luck if you think it best i want you to wright what you think about it. i think my self that this grate troble will be setled up this fall but then it will take some time before the tropes could get to their homes and yet it may last untill my three years is up but i hope not if it was not / for the fighting i should like the bisness very well beter than i expected but that is enough to siken eny one i should think but it has got to be don and i think in the end we shal have a free country and all we have got to sustain what our fourfathers fought for and then our children can come up under a free Constution and i feel perfectly reconsiled to my fate so you nead not borow eny troble about me in that respect for i am all wright for the presant when vicks burg falls i think things will look brighter and most likely that will be before you get this
