Camp Near Falmoth Va
           
Dear Sister Mary
I once moore take my pen in hand to inform you that I am still a live altho I have seen many a brave solgar fall since I last saw you But the Lord seams to be on my side as the man each side of me fell dead in Battell and I was not tuched our lose is hevey in our Brigade in cild and wonded is 500 men and in our Regment is 88 just one /4 forth of the Regment But all this is nothing compared with us haven to retret back which was cosed by the Eleventh Corps from Penselvania corled doges that tha ware / for if tha had stood thare ground this ware wold be about a end and the army of the Potomick wold have ben in Richmond and the hart of this Rebelion crushed finer then pouder But we ar about to move a gain and those cordle dogs will take the frunt and tha will have to fight or die for Sedwicks Corps that saved the hole nialation of the army in the last move ar to see that the cordly Pancelvanians fight or die by our one hands
 
Sister when our Generles give the ofica reports of this grat fight you will see howe it was that suferd in stormen the hights of Fredgburg which was a soriful sight for me to be hold 
 
Sister this makes 3 letters I have riten to you and one to your son andrue and one to our Brother Ronald But have goton kno anser to any of them I realy wished you wold right to me oftener as Mother cant right and I am anches to hear from you all as I am placed whare my life is exposed at all times and a few lins from Mother Sister or Brother or Nefues ar a comfert to me in my weary hours for I know not when I hear your last wishes unto me
 
Pleas to tell Mother to go up andsee Betsy for she must be anches to go sum whare out of the hearen of that aful place which took away her Bosom frend her Husband and our Father 
 
Sister pleas to give my cind love to the Chury famly and Lues and wife also all inquiren frends Ask James Chery if he int got time to right to me my respects to all not forgeting your Husband and your famly and your self Sister I hop we will meet again
 
Sister and Mother God blise us and ceep us from all harm on this earth
 
I hop this will find you all well as it leves me in good helth and good spirets so help me god from your Brother untill Death
