Sabine Pass January 23d 1863
My Dear Wife
The ship "Morning Light" and schr Velocity were taken on the 21st. we lost one man killed and eight or nine wounded. none of the Officers were hurt. We are all here as prisoners awaiting the orders of Genl Magruder. are very kindly treated and our personal property respected I am pleased to think I have fell into the hands of as fine a set of gentleman as those I have seen so far.
Inform Ruddock so that he can publish the information for the benefit of others. I will write again as soon as opportunity offers
