Dear Uncle
I will try and write you a few lines this morning I am smart and well and am in first rate health for whitch I feel very thankful and I hope these few lines will find you enjoying the same blessing it is a very pleasant place here in and about the city and it is the healthiest place on the Southern coast it is a resort for the sick here in the summer. the city and Fort is about 300 years old they are the Fort / and the houses are built of a kind of stone that is formed of sea shells the first house that was built in the United States is here still standing but it is rather old and decaded now. there is not hardly a man here in the city only old men that was to old to enlist but there is enoughf wimen to make it all up I tell you and there is not enough Nigers here to cover your farm all over. the figs and dates and oranges and bannas are about half grown here. there was a crop of oranges just ripe when I came here but they was sour and the next crop will be sweet and if we / stay here untill they get ripe we shall confisicate what we want to dispose of I tell you. but we dont know how long it will be before we shall start for NH the officers think we shall be at home by the first of August but we dont know. we have first rate quarters here and we live first rate to we have potatoes beens a plenty had peas, pork beef, hominy, rise, soup, fish, chowder, soft bread, crackers, molasses, shugar coffee tea. I have not heard from home for just 1 month ago to day but there is a boat coming in now and I / guess I shall get 2 or 3 leters if nothing hapens Please write to me and with all of the news have you heard from Austin whare is Ellen and how is all of the rest of the folks We have not been paid of yet and shant be untill the last of July and I shall have 4 months pay Please write as soon as you get this and all of the war news.
