Dear father I take my pen in hand to drop you a few words I am not well I have the measles I think I feel some better to day than I have felt in three or four days I am broke out all over with the measles I hope this may find you all in good health and I think I'll be up in a few days
 
there is several of our company down with the measles
 
I have written four or five letters home and have not received any answer yet I heard that uncle Hiram Deaton was dead and I was sorry to hear it we are in camp at raleigh in a very pleasent place
