I have seen many strange things since I left home and may see many more before I return but I hope the time till my return will be short I have seen several towns and and thing I'll give the names of some of the towns Fayetteville, Elizabeth City & Wilmington on Capefare River Wilson Goldsboro in and on the Rhonoke River Weldon & Garysburg Raleigh & Kinston & Newbern on the Nuse River Moorehed City & Carolina City on Bogue sound the state house in Raleigh is the finest house that I have seen I went all through it and saw the musium and book library and went up up the top of it and took a look at the town / We are now on Bogue Island the Island is about 45 miles long and about 50 yards from Atlantic Ocean we are faned here continualy by the sea breeze and we get very good water here to drink we can see the ships every day sailing about on the ocean there was three ships in sight to day and two of them got fireing cannons at each other but we could not find out what they meant we have been alarmed twice since we came here by the near aproach of a war vesel we were called to our arms the other night at 11 Oclock and after we found there was but little danger we all retired to our tents and lay the remainder of the night with our muskets in our arms there is about 17000 men in camp here with us

We have an advantageous position and I hope the lord will protect and preserve us and deliver our enemies into our hands if they attact us but I have hopes that we will not get into a fight soon if ever if the yankees attempt to land here they will meet with a warm reseption I must come to a close by saying may god save us in heaven for crist sak Amen Give my respects to all the neigbors accept the best wishes of a friend Write soon
