Dear sister
I am well at present and hope this will find you and all the rest enjoying the same blessing the company is in very good health at present

the yankees are still lurking about here and from what I can learn we will be apt to have a fight before long there came orders last night for us to cook three days rashions and it is thought that we will have a plenty to do in a few days there was some of the yankees landed yesterday not far from this place but I dont think they remained on shore long.

Our fare is as good as could be expected we have plenty of bacon & flour some corn meal & sugar & coffee twice every day and fish as often as we want them we can get beef and potatoes som times there is no spring on this Island but we can get very good water by diging three or four feet deep which is not very cold but I think as healthy as the water in moore county. we have had very cold rainy wether for a few days but we have not had any frost yet for the weather is not cold enough

W. & J. McKinnon & H. M. Ray all landed here safely saturday the 19 and were gladly received by the company they brought me 1 pair pants and one pair sock which I was glad to get for such things ar dificult to be had here and if atall not at any reasonable price for which I send my thanks to you and Mother I must come to a close though there is a plenty of rumors here but they are with little foundation therefore I will close

plese write soon as you have the opertunity yours truely
