Dear Father
I take this opportunity to drop you a few words to inform you that I sent $40.00 to you by Mr Alex Kelley for you to save for me. the McKinnon boys sent some also and I expect if Kelly sees Mr D. McKinnon he will send the money by him to you if not you had better go down and get it
 
            as I have given sarah a small skech about the fight I will close my remarks with saying a few words.
 
loss in our company Capt W. P. Martin killed by a minie ball passing through his head Brock Tyson was wounded in the tigh and left on the field / with two of my tent mates with him trying to take care of him viz. W. Whitlock and H. M. Ray we have not heard from any of them as yet and also Mr C. E. Jones was slightly wounded in the head. Our Maj. was severly wounded by a ball passing throug both his legs and Col Avery was take prisoner while trying to resue Capt Rand from the enemy. our loss is about 350 and the enemys loss is about 2,000 our force was from 4,000 to 5,000 and the enemys 27,000 if I could see you I could tell you lots I must close please write soon
