Dear sister I wrote home a few days ago in answer to yours of the 27th ult. and having not received yours of the 13th ult till day before yesterday I will drop a few lines in answer I was very glad to get your letters and hear from home though the letters had been writen a long time they afforded me much satisfaction the reason why I did not get them sooner was that I was that I was in the hospital and had no communication with the Regt for I did not know where the Regt was I have no news to write only there is many of our fellows sick at this time but I hope there will soon be a change for the better for 3 of our company has just / come in from the hospital and say that our boys are getting some better J McKinnon is poorly today and I have not heard from Wm Kinnon since I lef richmond. Cousin John A McKinnon has come in from the hospital he is weak yet but he is mending. Mr Hugh Black was here yesterday and I sent $40.00 to Father to save for me Mr H Black will leave it in the care of Miss Margarett McKinzie and Father will see to getting it. I wish I could be at home in fruit time for if we get any fruit or vegetables here we must pay enormous prices Onions the size of hen eggs 10 cents apiece Irish potatoes 1.00 per gallon Eggs 1.00 per doz. half ripe aples 25 cents a quart and peaches 50 cents. Butter 1.25 per lb. chickens 1.50 a piece and every thing else in proportion
I must close from your affectionate brother
