Dear Sister
it has been more than a week since I recd a letter from home Father and owing to circumstances I had no chance to write untill now I received a letter from you day before yesterday and was glad to hear from home and to learn that all was well. this leaves me in tolerable good health and I trust this will find you all the same we have been moveing and marching about so much for the last month that many letters to us has been lost and we have had but little chance to write since I last wrote home we were orderd to go to reinforce old Stonewall Jackson and we marched to Richmond and while we were waiting for transportation thither our colonel managed to get our Regt. out of Genl R. S. Ransoms Brigade on account of being misstreated himself and Regt we were all glad to get from under Ransom we then we marched back to Petersburg and the rest of the Brigade went on to the valley of Va. we are stationed near Petersburg we are in Genl Pittigrews Brigade the day we left our old Brigade I saw cousin J. A. McKinnon & A. E. McDonald and the Monroe Boys Mr John Monroe Esq came to see us all and only arived just in time to get sight of his boys as they were about starting he didnot get there in time to get the boxes that he carried to his boys to them Mr J. McKinnon is well and William is still at the hospital at Richmond and I have not heard from him in over a month and therefore cannot tell how he is as my paper is small I filled out my first sheet without thinking to close my letter and as I have commenced on another sheet I will try to fill it up with something I am sorry to hear that there are thieves committing depradations in moore county and elsewhere I hope the runaways and all straglers will soon be cleared out from them parts by the authorities for they ought to arrested at all hazards and punished as they justly diserve.

I am glad to hear that crops look well in moore crops look [faded] ion of the country

I must close may god help us all and [faded] mercy upon us and save us at last in his kingdom for christ sake amen
[faded]
affectionate
