Dear Father
I wrote to you a few days ago from Hookerton N.C. then we went to Kinston Starts about 4 Oclock P.M. I am now on the train this evening for Goldsboro we are on our way to Virginia there are Genls Daniels & Ransoms Brigades are left at Kinston. they had a picket fight yesterday evening 9 miles below Kinston our side lost 4 or 5.
we are at Goldsboro now waiting for Weldon and Wilmington mail train to come in before we start for Petersburg I supose we will go on to Richmond and then to Fredericksburg Va.
Saturday Morning the 2nd
We are at Weldon this morning but will soon start for Petersburg /
We have just had the opportunity getting an excelent mess of fine rock fish caught here in the Rhoanoake me and the McKinnon Boys are in excelent health and also the company are in excelent health at this time
No particular news from Fredericksburg report from Richmond this morning that cannonading could be hear all day yesterday in the direction of Fredericksburg
I cannot tell you where to write to for it pr evident we are going some where in the direction of the Rappahannock
I had the pleasure yesterday of seeing the 35 Regt and seeing several of my old acquaintances in Blues company in fine health we lef them at kinston
I must close these few lines which I have take the oportunety of writeing to inform you that we have left N.C. May the protecting hand of the God of heaven go with us wherever we go and save us in all the dangers that surround us
