Noah Deaton to William Deaton, 9 August 1864
August 9th 1864
Prison Camp Point Lookout Md

Dear Father
I write you a few lines to inform you that I am in tolerable good health and hope you are all well at home I have not heard from home since the 6 of June all the rest of the boys from your neighborhood are well The weather is very hot and sultry here & there has been but very little rain here this summer we had a nice shower a few days ago and also a whirlwind passed across the point below the prisoners camp from what I can learn it done severe damage to some buildings wounding some three or four persons and sweeping everything in its course to the bay where it formed a water spout several hundred feet high

It is rumord in camp today that there is an exchange of prisoners to commence soon but but I cannot trace the report to any reliable source

Write soon

your affectionate Son untill Death
