My Dear Father being a prisoner of War as I am here I take much pleasure and feel very thankful that I am permited to write home and to receive letter in return I recd a letter from Sarah of the 4th ult. which came to hand the last mail I have not much to write you now only I still enjoy very good health and trust this may find you all the same. I am tolerable well clad for the comeing winter and also have a snug little cracker box house and employ myself at engraveing and reading I wish I could get to go home and carry some of my work
 
L. Britt D. Martin W. C. Moore and the rest that are here from your acquaintance is well as far as I know Angus McCallum Neill McLauchlin & Ruffin Wallace are dead I hear they died at Elmira N.Y. and Wm Barrett Wm K Nunnery & Duncan C. Blue left this point on a load of sick for exchange
