Sister! I write you a few lines in reply to your kind favor of the 4th ult. which came to hand the last mail I was glad to hear that all was well I have not much to write you at present only I enjoy very good health and am tolerable well clad for the comeing winter. Daniel Martin Levi Britt and the rest of the boys are all well that are here W. K. Nunnery Wm Barrett & Duncan C. Blue has lef this Point on a load of sick for exchange and I hear that Angus McCallum Ruffin Wallace & Neil McLauchlin is dead they died at Elmira
 
I have quit makeing rings and work at engraveing all the time now I wish you all could see some of my work you would doubt whether I could do so well or not I will send you a ring in this letter but as I fear it may not go through safe I will not send the finest style of work.
