Miss Sarah i received your verry affecionate letter several days back which give me great pleasure to read it i was then staying down on nuce river fairing as a soldier ought to fair wee ware orderd back to our Regt wee are now stationed two miles from kinston above kinston wee will not stay hear long on the acount of forige and provisions our fare is verry rough hear i have bin staying at [faded] twelve miles below kinston on nuce river acting as courier for our squadron i tell you i faired sumptiously for the past month i am anxious to leave this place at any our thare is nothing to eat down hear any how this is rather a dull place any how down hear
Thare are several new recruits come into our company lately wee have a powerful company now it looks moore like a regiment than a company wee have not lost ary man yet and wee have but verry few sick wones i have bin verry sick for the last four or five days but to day i feel nearly as well as ever John McMillen looks better than he ever did cousin kin and Neill and D J Mcdonald are well and doing well bill potters is in fine spirit so fare he tells me that your brother daniel can wack to prare meeting the last time i saw him i thought he would dy if he was the last man i reckon prair meeteing is reduced verry small since al the boys has left wee have preaching this evening wee havent had the opportunity of hearing preaching in two months before down whare i was a staying on nuce / river beets al places i ever stayed at thare want any men thare but the ladies ware always frolicking dancing and playing cards on Sunday people down thare did not seem like they cared any thing for Sunday they are mighty ingnerant people in that part of this world i dont beleave thare is any person living about whare wee are stationed now if thare is i cant see know boddy i thought i would have bin at home before now but i could not get thare i think i will git to go home before long or at least i am in hopse so wee have one home on a furlow now he lives in south carolina and i fear he will disert and not return he is a substitute and not exactly a white man in every respect at that if he dont return thare will be some botherration about geting furlows in our company i dont expect to wait for my furlow know how i will try and get a detail to go home and see about my business at home thare is a going to bee an act past in congress that al the batchelors and oald widdowers that dont get wives will have to go in in service so i reckon you will have a genneral time geting marid up on shadduck creek and the river before long i understand A Patterson is flying round like a red burd excus my foolishness
