Newbern Feby the 10th 1862
 
Dear Sister
                        I embrace the present opportunity of droping you a few lines to inform you that I am well at this time and hope these few lines to reach you in good health I have nothing of importance to write to you at this time We have some verry cold rough weather here for some time past and not much likelyhood of getting much better Capt Martins Co. has moved up within four miles of here Some of them comes up to see us every day you wanted to know if I received my drawers I forgot to mention it in my my letters, I recd 2 prs flannel drawers I should like to hear from you all verry much Hugh is mending verry fast but has not got out of the hospital yet
 
[torn away] good many of our company
[torn away] this time there is a heap
[torn away] got the mumps
[torn away] the tyfoid feaver 
 
I want you to write to me as soon as you get this for I would be particular glad to hear from you any time give my best respects to the rest of the family & tell them I want to see them very much Nothing more for this time only I remain your most affectionate
