My Dear Cousin
I expect you think by this time that I have entirely forgotten you but I can assure you that is not the case When I received your letter I was very sick with the mumps and have been suffering now for the last two or three days with the toothache You wished to know where my brothers are bud Neill and Kin are with Capt [?] Neill's Company, the "Partisan Rangers" they have been in camp now abouttwo weeks eight miles below Clinton they expect to stay there eight or ten days longer I don't know where they will go from there Bud Neill and / Kin got very good horses bud Neill's is little wild She don't like firing in front of her in front but I am in hopes she will soon get use to it We received a letter from the boys last Sunday they were well and very well pleased the people in Samson are so kind to them Bud John is still at athe "Arsenal" they are very busy there now he can't get to come home but sendom so you may know that we are very lonesome
We were very sorry to hear that Cousin Daniel was wounded so badly we would like to go to see him but father is so behind hand with his crops we can't go he hasn't commenced hilling corn yet father says when he will get through hilling that he will try and go to see him

Mr McDonald has gone to visit some of the camps of our soldiers we dont know when he will return he expects to stay two or three weeks any how to preach to them. Charly Murphy was married a week before he left home to Miss Mary Williams. he is in the same company with our boys Mrs Murphy Charly's mother died the 19th of June she suffered a great deal before she died she was sick a good while She left some small children we were very sorry for them but they seem to get along very well

Mr Benton is very sick not expected to live I would'nt be surprised if he is dead by this time. Sister sends her love to Daniel and says when father will go up to see you that she will / go with him if she can She says if she had a horse at her command and a boy to go with her that she would go to see you oftener than she does. Some of you come down to see us soon we would be so glad to see you. All join me in love to you all. Please write soon and give me all the news. I must close I expect you will get tired reading this badly written and composed letter Excuse all mistakes.

Good bye dear cousin from your ever affectionate cousin
Cattie McDonald

P.S. Sister Christian has just come from Grand mas She says Sister Florah had the mumps her jaws are very much swolen
