Dear Cousin
Although as yet I have received no answer to my last yet will I write but hav'nt nothing interesting to communicate. Sister received a letter from Aunt Caty last week we were very glad indeed to hear from you all we had'nt heard in such a long time before that Sister will answer it soon She expects to go down to New Hanover next week to teach school about 20 miles from Wilmington. They have promised to give her 25$ per month and board She is going to board at Mr Owen Alderman's about a mile from the school house We heard last week that the Yankees were firing on the salt works at the sound Sister is a little afraid to go down the country but she will go next week any how I reckon and see if there is any danger of the Yankees coming where she will be if not she will stay She expected to go the first of this month but there was so much fever and sickness down there that she was afraid to go until it would turn cold. There were two soldiers here to day from the sound after hands to work on the battery they had orders to take one fourth of the hands out of Cumberland father did'nt have but one so he did'nt send any You have no doubt seen / the account of Uncle Neill G. McNeill's death in the paper he went down to the sound about two weeks ago and was gone just one week when he died he had a chill he and Uncle Hector were in company making salt he died Thursday night and they brought his corpse home Saturday night about nine O'clock Mr McDonald preached his funeral sermon his text was in the 24th Chapter of Matthew and 44th verse he was buried with masonic honors it was the largest funeral I ever was at Grand Ma takes his death very hard Sister Christian is teaching school about two miles from home Angus and Lauchlin is going to her she has about 13 schollars Sister Ann and myself will be quite lonesom this winter I wish some of you would come to see us tell Daniel to come to see us I would like so much to see him. We heard from the boys last week they are at Garysburg they are put in Col. Evans Regiment of Cavalary. Kin says perhaps he will come home Christmas but I don't know whether he will or not.
We will send you the collar pattern in this. I intended sending before but forgot it when I wrote I hope you will forgive me We will also send you a scrap of Sisters new dress
