I received your ever welcom letter yesterday and was glad to hear from you I received a letter from sister Gate she stated in the letter to me that cousin Martin was ded I tell you I was vearry sorry to hear it I never will forget poor Martin
 
I could not go to school to day for I cant get my lesson if I had had the chans of seeing cousin Martin before he had died I wouldent have hatd it so bad but he is gon the way the world has been agoing and will go I havent enny thing worth your attension we received a letter from brother hugh the other day he was well cousin sarah I brother told me to ask you what you wold be willing to give for a brest pin he said ther was plenty of them in Wilmington gold pins are from 8 to 5 hundred dollars a peace brass pins ar from 80 to 40 dollars a peace I saw brass brest pins ther for 40 dollars they wear vearry nic as long as they would look bright they was most as long as your hand / A D said for you to say what you wold be willing to give and he will get you one brest pins all ther for I have seen them gold chans gold ring calico from 18 to 20 dollars per yd waste 26 dress bonnets from 4 to 5 hundred dollars som ladies hats for 600 dol O I had like to forgot to tell you Mr Owen told me to tell you that he wold git a brest pin for you that is a young man that is a staing hear a tending to sevarl things too tedous to menson so it wold be worth your while to com to see him he has ben wounded tell cousin daniel that I wont keep his girl for him enny longer if he wont come she has told me over and often that she wantd to be kin to me and she said she wold not marry till she got a Scotchman whether he was poor or rich she did not care so he was scoch and from up the country and kine to me so you tell daniel this no more at this time pleas writ soon Sallie McDonald
