Sarah J. McDonald Poem, 6 March 1861
Buffalo NC March 6th 1861

Ah yes remember me dear friend,
Though years may pass and with their fleeting moments send,
The emblems of decay yes when the silvered moon-beams
Steal through the old oaken tree
And the Zephyrs gently fan the flowers,
Then think Oh! think of me.

My gentle friends I love thee well,
Far more than idle words can tell.
And I will love thee ever too,
With feelings that are deep and true.

And if thy friendship too shall last,
Though time and years roll slowly past                                              F. A. Bryan
One simple boon I'll ask of thee,                                                                    Jonesboro
That thou wilt sometimes think of me.                                                                       NC

Sweet modest plants condemed to dwell
In solitude and lonely shade
Oh do you not sometimes rebel
That this obscure your lot is made
But come with me to fairy flowers
Decked by the tasteful hand of art
And ye shall know of brighter hours
And share the pleasure of my heart

And I said in sweet assents
Whose robe of plain and simple white
Is for these shades a garment meet
I could not bide the glaring light
Which gaudy tulips love so well
Oh grant me to love my little day
Untouched by pride may pass away.  Sarah Jane McDonald
