I saw Don day before yesterday, & he paid me all he was owing me & I gave him my receipt for the same. we was paid off yesterday we got 4 months pay, or we was paid up to the first of January. I got 39 & 20 cts. I wanto send you 50 or 60 dollars the first chance I have. Mr Landon dont want eny money, he has got more than he expected to I spoke about your going to see her about it, but you need not go. Vrooman got a letter yesterday. they were all well & would you believe she has joined the church. I hope she will be a good christian /
The health of our regiment is a litle better. the most of our sick have been sent up the river. John A Gerard is dead. he died the 12 & Dave Reastine died the same day. that makes 14 that have died out of our company & there are two or three more that cant live long. the most of the army has gone from here they have gone up the river but I cant say how far. there are some 8 or 10 regiments here yet. there is no telling how long we will stay here. Mr Vrooman wrote home to have her pay you for the reaping he paid 50 on the reaper & 20 for that oil can which leaves $5.30cts you get it of her Len said she would pay it to you I think that will square us all up to the present. the weather is very warm & pleasent the trees are leaving out the grass has started & every thing looks like spring it makes me think of work, but nothing to do. this is a lasy time for me I am geting fat & saucy. I am well & harty / & that is all that I can ask for here. there is nothing in this world like good health.
